How to enable Off Road package using PIWIS III

Evidence supports one owner reported Off Road/Sport Chrono HUD result, but no verified PIWIS path or values; use the notes as search and risk context only.

Target Off Road/HUD result

Original retained source for the claimed Off Road and Sport Chrono HUD addition

...Added off-road and sport chrono to the HUD....

Couple of things done. Airbag activate/deactivate disclaimer is gone. Added sport chrono (Laptimer) for the right screen menu. allowed for keyboard and full music access with CarPlay in motion.

Added off-road and sport chrono to the HUD.

Activated expert menu.

I'm almost certain that one can customize what on which screen to have info. Eg, navigation map on the left, car info on the right and so on. It seems all the fields are vastly customizable.

Android auto is there. Not sure if added hardware would be required.

PIWIS manual coding translation clue

Useful clue that PIWIS may label Instrument Cluster as Kombi and use German equivalents

...Instrument Cluster is 'Kombi'... go to manual coding without rules...

It should not be that hard to translate "Instrument Cluster: Factory setting-Factory setting-individual options line 1: Boost Pressure". It's the same settings, just in German. Instrument Cluster is "Kombi", select that, then go to manual coding without rules and scroll around until you see the German equivalent of "factory setting" and then find the values I listed (the German equivalent). It's not hard.

Severe failed automatic-coding report

High-priority caution from a 2019 Cayenne automatic-coding failure after equipment-list edits

...clicked on automatic coding (PIWIS 3) and this killed the Cayenne (MY 2019)...

Hi,
I have some questions about Cayenne E3 Coding.
I did retrofit of rear view camera.
I tried to add it to equipment list and after this I marked all ECUs and clicked on automatic coding (PIWIS 3) and this killed the Cayenne (MY 2019).
I translate: "Error when evaluating the f-tab. Softwareversion is: 0907 Partnumber 9Y0 920 945"
In cluster I got: "All-wheel drive system failed, only rear-wheel drive adapted to continue driving"
I removed the rear view camera at the equipment list, and did it again, but nothing changes... DTC`s are deleted but in 0x22 I got the failure "wrong vehicle variant", this DTC is permanent.
Is there a solution to solve it by myself or can only Porsche code it back again...
Thank you guys

  • PIWIS III coding fundamentals gives general background for this subject. This page still relies on the target-specific source discussion below for feature-specific settings and outcomes. Forum reports treat PIWIS III coding as high risk owner work: use strong external power, capture before/after evidence, avoid broad auto coding unless target evidence supports it, and expect version/restore uncertainty. Evidence-backed takeaway

Needs verification: the thread supports only one original owner report that Off Road and Sport Chrono were added to the HUD, not a confirmed step-by-step enablement path for the instrument cluster and HUD on a 2019 Cayenne 9Y0/9YA/E3 S1.

The useful takeaway is where to look and what not to assume. PIWIS may label the instrument cluster as Kombi, and one owner says to use manual coding without rules and look for German equivalents of the relevant display settings S3. That is a search clue, not an Off Road setting value.

Broad equipment-list changes followed by Automatic Coding are the main risk called out by the retained evidence. One 2019 Cayenne owner reported AWD failure messaging and a permanent wrong-vehicle-variant DTC after adding equipment-list data and automatic-coding all ECUs S4.

Settings and coding evidence

Module/menu path Reported value Notes Source
HUD/result, exact path not provided Off Road and Sport Chrono added to HUD Single original result report; no retained post gives the Off Road coding labels or values. [1]
Instrument Cluster / Kombi / manual coding without rules German equivalents of the desired display settings Search clue only; the cited post discusses translating another cluster-display example, not an Off Road Package value. [2]
Diagnostics / F7 Additional menu / Maintenance Data or Vehicle Data / F8 save / Automatic Coding Generic option-coding workflow Common forum workflow, but not Off Road-specific and may recode more than the display modules. [8]

Practical read of the forum evidence

  • Confirm the exact Off Road/HUD labels and values in PIWIS before changing coding; the retained evidence does not identify them. [1]
  • Record original settings first. One owner specifically said he photographed settings before saving changes. [9]
  • Use stable external power for PIWIS programming work. Porsche/NHTSA recall material for a different instrument-cluster programming campaign says vehicle voltage must be kept between 13.5 V and 14.5 V during programming. [10]
  • Treat Automatic Coding as high risk unless the exact target workflow is known; the thread includes a severe 2019 Cayenne wrong-variant/AWD failure report after broad automatic coding. [3]

Variants and unresolved points

Conflicting reports: access route varies. One owner reported PIWIS 38.2 worked for module-by-module coding while 39.7 did not, another said newer PIWIS versions require online PPN for F7 configuration, and another said Automatic Coding does not require Engineering mode. [11] [12] [13]

Needs verification: no retained source proves whether Off Road display activation requires HUD hardware, air suspension or chassis hardware, specific PCM/cluster software, factory option-list state, country coding, or VIN-specific eligibility. A useful caution from the thread is that visible coding entries do not prove the function will work. [14]

Official-reference limit: NHTSA-hosted Porsche material supports general PIWIS programming discipline and shows Porsche uses PIWIS Additional menu / Vehicle Data Maintenance in other retrofit instructions. It does not provide an Off Road Package activation procedure. [15]
